ECI 546 New Literacies and Media
During this course I learned the impeccable impact that technology can have on bridging the gap between diversity within the classroom. The population of the students within my classroom is extremely diverse. They derive from homes where the majority live in poverty. Exposing them to technology and providing them with ample opportunity to create their own knowledge is an inspirational miracle to witness. In correlation to my compelling question, this course proved that the TPACK framework is necessary when integrating technology, STEM and literacy with globally diverse students.
ECI 545 Theory and Research in Literacy
Within this course I was exposed to the various theories that surround the formation of education. My eyes were opened as I explored educational theories that are built on the literacy development of children. I spent quality time dissecting and understanding the Common Core State Standards and building connections of the new curriculum and previously established theories in literacy. While answering my compelling question, this course assisted me in developing a strong understanding of the Common Core and how it relates to literacy and STEM integration.
ECI 523 Teachers as Researcher
As I begin this course on teachers as researchers, the Wake County Public School System had recently adopted a new literacy program called Letterland. I chose to focus my research on strengths and weaknesses of this new literacy program and the benefits in had on the development of the novice readers in my kindergarten class. In relation to my compelling question, I was able to discover the best instructional strategies that successfully develop young readers. I can conclude that literacy instruction should be visual and hands on while integrating various tools and content areas.
ECI 524 Theory and Research in Global Learning
While exploring research and theory in global learning, I quickly realized the importance of creating a positive environment that fosters global learning, supplies technological resources to shrink the globe and ultimately construct a society built upon globalized citizens. The diverse learners are the blueprint of our future education. Through integration of literacy and the hands on curriculum of STEM we can assist our students see the world through various lenses and develop as strong hopeful student leaders.
